frozen characters

Whether you’re a long-time Disney fan or just a casual moviegoer, you may have watched or heard about Elsa and Anna’s icy adventures in Frozen and Frozen II. If you have, perhaps you’ll agree that one of the films’ most memorable characters is Olaf the Snowman. Created by Elsa to represent her reconnecting to her childhood and emotional core, Olaf also serves as comic relief. Now, there are some speculations about Olaf’s height that lead to even funnier talks on the Internet, which might have also prompted you to ask: how tall is Olaf exactly? And while we’re at it, how about Elsa, Anna, and the others’ heights?

Olaf’s Height Has Never Officially Been Confirmed

Let us get this out of the way first. Olaf’s exact height has not been published in any official sources. Although the Frozen wiki previously listed his height as 5 ft 4 in (162.6 cm), this has never been confirmed. Indeed, the wiki no longer even gives this height.

Nevertheless, this unofficial height became a viral topic on the internet at one point. A popular Twitter post did the math and came to the conclusion that, if Olaf’s height was indeed 5 ft 4 in, then Elsa would be a whopping 11 feet 2 inches (340.36 cm). Indeed, for a while, the idea of Elsa being taller than the average person spread online. Reactions ranged from people being disappointed at being shorter than a snowman to wondering if Elsa and Anna were huge as kids.

Obviously, it is improbable that Olaf is that tall. Nevertheless, the thought of him being that tall, and the conclusion that Elsa and Anna were inhumanly tall, did provide the internet with some entertaining speculation fodder.

How Tall are Elsa and Anna?

Similarly, the exact heights of Elsa and Anna have never been officially confirmed by Disney itself. However, this has not stopped fans from having fun speculating.

As mentioned earlier, fans went crazy when they thought that Olaf was 5 ft 4 in. This made them think that Elsa and Anna had superhuman heights, even when they were children. Of course, it is more likely that Olaf was much shorter than that. This means that the two sisters would have more realistic heights.

One Tumblr post did the math and made several conclusions about the characters’ heights. Based on measurements of doors and how tall characters were compared to doors, it was concluded that Anna was exactly 5 ft (152.4 cm) and Elsa was 5 ft 4 in (162.56 cm).

Due to intense speculation by fans, one of the show’s directors, Jennifer Lee, ended up tweeting to put the issue to rest. In a now-deleted tweet, she mentions that Olaf’s height as mentioned on the wiki was probably a typo. She also stated that Elsa is 5 ft 7 in (170.18 cm) while Anna is 5 ft 5 in (165.1 cm). Perhaps disappointed at the idea that Elsa and Anna weren’t superhumanly tall after all, fans did the calculations regarding Olaf. They concluded that his height is closer to 2 ft 6 in (76 cm). Yes, Olaf isn’t very tall either, he has a more reasonable height than fans believed. S0, no, Elsa and Anna aren’t superhuman freaks of nature. Or maybe they are, just not in the way fans imagined them to be.

How Tall are Kristoff, Hans, and Sven?

Now while we’re at it, you may be wondering about the heights of the other characters. Again, official information is hard to come by, but that hasn’t stopped people from speculating.

Prior to the whole viral moment about Olaf’s height implying that Elsa and Anna were inhumanly high, people were already doing calculations. The Tumblr post mentioned earlier already gave estimates about the girls. However, it also attempted to give estimates for the other characters too. In particular, it is estimated that Kristoff is 5 ft 10 in (177.8 cm), Hans is 5 ft 6 in (167.64 cm), and Sven is 4 ft 3 in (129.54 cm).

None of these three heights are official. Still, it remains quite impressive at what lengths fans will go in order to answer burning questions. Imagine, measuring the height of an animated door using a ruler. After that, using math to compare said height to that of another character. And finally, extrapolating the heights of other characters based on the original character (which is used as a baseline). That’s true dedication.

So What Have We Learned Today?

After all this talk about the heights of your favorite Frozen characters, what have we learned today? Elsa, our favorite ice queen, 5 ft 4 in. Anna, the sister who could never let it go, is exactly 5 ft. Olaf, the lovable snowman whose “height” started all of these internet shenanigans in the first place, is around 2 ft 6 in. As for the other characters, they range from 4 ft 3 in. to 5 ft 10 in. But perhaps most importantly, we learned that Disney fans can be quite the dedicated bunch and will do anything, even math, to answer their burning questions.
